Despite the loss, the men's varsity soccer game May 2 was one to be remembered.

The game between Tinker and IFC, which IFC won 4-2, included an ejection, injuries, equipment issues and discord between both teams.

Tinker had several good scoring chances early in the game, but two of their three shots on goal sailed over the net. Taking control of the ball again, IFC shot. Goalkeeper Carlos Liberos dove for the ball, but it was too late, the goal was good. IFC led the game 1-0.

"Keep your head up, blue," called a Tinker player from the sidelines, referring to Tinker's blue jersey shirts.

Mike McCabe echoed the sentiments.

Watching the ball roll down the field, he yelled, "C'mon fellas."

Seconds later, Dustin Vancleave popped his ankle and ventured to the sidelines in an attempt to walk it off. IFC wasted no time and attempted two more goals. Both were intercepted by Liberos.

As the teams ran back up the field after a missed shot by Tinker, an altercation occurred between Caleb Whiteall and an IFC player when the two men collided. Without hesitation, the referee issued Whiteall a red card and ejected him from the game and the park.

The game resumed. After volleying for the ball, Tinker earned a penalty kick. Jefferson Jensen attempted it and succeeded, tying the score at 1-1.

Vancleave returned to the game and both teams attempted a goal before IFC succeeded, making the score 2-1. Just before the half-time whistle, IFC scored one more point to go up 3-1.

"If you lose the ball, go after it. Make the effort, don't give up on it," Vancleave said to the team during the half-time break.

Minutes into the second half, IFC attempted another goal, but Liberos stopped it. Tinker scored immediately after, bringing the score to 3-2. Tinker attempted a third goal, but it was no good. IFC then tried for three goals, none of which were good.

Before either team could attempt another goal, Adam Myers excused himself from the game, claiming a "cleat to the knee."

With the game resumed, Tinker attempted three more goals and IFC went for two. Of the five attempted, only one of IFC's was good, which increased their lead to 4-2.

Several more tries were made by each team, but none of them were successful. As the ball volleyed between the two teams, the interaction between Tinker and IFC took precedence over the score. IFC earned a turnover after an IFC player yelled out during an altercation. And, just before the game whistle was blown, Jensen collided with an opponent, yet, there was no call. In addition to the arguments, the heel of Joe Bowers cleat nearly fell off, causing him to excuse himself from the game. There was only five minutes left and neither team scored again.
