32nd CCS tops 552nd MXS on last play Published April 29, 2010 By John Stuart Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- It was a close one for 552nd MXS Tuesday night at the flag football field. They had it won and in the bag against their 32nd CCS opponents. That is if you'd removed the last play of the game. And that's what it all came down to. The 552nd MXS squad had the lead 21-18 going into the two-minute warning, bolstered by a late fourth quarter touchdown from quarterback Michael Francis to Jason Gage and subsequent two-point conversion pass to Greg Spiegel. There were only four plays left and all they had to do was stop 32nd CCS for the win. Shouldn't be too hard. But the 32nd CCS players had other plans. Though there were 80 full yards ahead of them to the end zone, they didn't flinch. Three long-yardage plays later, 32nd CCS was at 552nd MXS's door, going for it on the last play of the game from 15 yards out. The 32nd CCS quarterback, Chris Kitter, had been sneaky in the pocket all game, scrambling and picking up yards against a fledgling 552nd MXS rush defense. This play was no different. Kitter took the snap on the last play and rocked back, looking for his receiver corps. No dice. So he scrambled right with the blitz on and threw the ball. It hit receiver Brody Wilcock square and he pulled it in for a completion at the one yard line, amid heavy defender traffic. The 552nd MXS managed a flag pull but it was too late, Wilcock was in the end zone and the 32nd CCS had won it 24-21. Fortunately for the 32nd CCS the last play of the game did count.
