Officials name new director of 448th SCMW Published April 16, 2010 Defense Logistics Agency Public Affairs WASHINGTON -- The director of the Defense Logistics Agency announced March 18 the selection of Gilbert J. Montoya, a senior DLA official, as the next director of the 448th Supply Chain Manage-ment Wing at the Air Force Global Logistics Support Center, Air Force Materiel Command at Tinker. "Gil's leadership over the past three years as the DSCP Deputy Commander combined with his broad experience in a variety of Air Force logistics positions throughout his career makes him uniquely qualified to take on this new opportunity," Navy Vice Adm. Alan Thompson wrote in an e-mail message announcing the selection to agency senior officials. "Gil has been an exceptional contributor to the DLA mission, and his expertise and leadership will be missed," Admiral Thompson wrote. Mr. Montoya was previously the deputy commander for plans and operations at Defense Supply Center Philadelphia. Mr. Montoya joined DSCP, DLA's troop support center, in 2007. DSCP annually buys more than $14.5 billion worth of food, clothing, textiles, medicines, medical supplies, and construction supplies and equipment for America's warfighters and other customers worldwide. "While I am very comfortable in my current position, the new challenges, along with [reuniting] with my family were the deciding factors in my decision to return to the Air Force," Mr. Montoya wrote in an e-mail announcing his departure to the DSCP work force. "I am confident you will provide my replacement, once that person is named, with the same level of outstanding support you have provided me throughout my three-year assignment." At the 448th Supply Chain Management Wing, Mr. Montoya will be in charge of five supply chain management groups. The 448th is part of the Air Force Global Logistics Support Center, which serves as the hub for supply chain management for the Air Force.
