How low can you go this weekend? Published April 2, 2010 By Charity Young 72nd Air Base Wing Civil Engineer Directorate TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The 72nd Air Base Wing Civil Engineer Directorate is again challenging Team Tinker - How Low Can You Go? On three-day weekends you have been asked to turn off all non-essential equipment, and Team Tinker, you have stepped up to the challenge. How Low Can You Go? weekends have been quite successful. Each one has eliminated one average day of utilities. That is $90,000 in tax payer savings. Easter weekend will not be a long weekend, but it is a great time for another challenge. When you leave Tinker on April 2, remember to turn off or unplug items that draw power. Of course this only includes non-essential items, nothing that will adversely affect any building or systems. With the harsh winter, came great increases in energy use. In the midst of the weather we have been experiencing lately is a great opportunity to save energy. Both at Tinker and at home we no longer need to crank up the heat. As you enjoy the nice weather, think of other things you can do to save energy. Turn off the lights when you leave an empty room, take the stairs instead of the elevator, report leaks or other maintenance issues, and remember How Low Can You Go? Tinker needs your help to maintain our successful "goal-achieving" status. The higher the goal, the tighter we must pull our belts. Tinker is the number one utility consumer in the Air Force, and the goal to no longer be number one is a lofty one. You are encouraged to make energy a consideration in all you do.
