Air Force launches legal assistance Web site Published March 18, 2010 Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center Judge Advocate General Office TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Do I need a will? What happens in a divorce? We want to adopt a child but where do we start? You may have asked yourself these questions before, and getting answers involved at least one trip to the base legal office or to a private attorney. Fortunately, on Feb. 1, the Air Force JAG Corps unveiled the new www.aflegalassistance.com which can help answer those questions. The Web site is designed for active duty and reserve component members, retirees, and dependents. The Web site provides brief answers to common legal problems in the form of downloadable pamphlets and questionnaires and links to outside legal resources, including the American Bar Association Web site. There are 12 main categories of legal topics with nine of them having multiple subtopics. The 12 categories are Consumer and Financial Affairs, Deployment Readiness, Disaster Assistance, Family Law, Immigration, Military Benefits, Powers of Attorney, Real Property, Service Members Civil Relief Act, Taxes, Voting, and Wills and Estate Planning. Of course, information on the website is for educational and informational purposes only. The website cannot replace consultation with your local JAG, and Airmen should never rely solely on the Web site when making decisions. Take a look at the Web site the next time a legal need arises, and feel free to visit the legal office during legal assistance hours on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Check back next week for more information on the new www.aflegalassistance.com.
