Flight Controllers beat Security Forces in playoffs Published Feb. 26, 2010 By Brandice J. Armstrong Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- They are still undefeated. After a close and heated intramural playoff game against Security Forces Feb. 22, the Flight Controllers came out on top, winning 57-47. Coach Dennis Lewis said the team isn't taking the victory for granted. "They play as a team, taking one game at a time," he said. "They just take care of business." Going into Monday night's playoff game, the Flight Controllers were ranked No. 1 in the small squadron category, for units with fewer than 149 members. Security Forces was ranked No. 4 in the large squadron category, as their unit has at least 150 personnel. But, both teams played hard, utilizing man-on-man coverage and often keeping the score within 10 points of each other. Anthony "Smitty" Smith (No. 6), Prentice Jones (No. 7), Cedric Street (No. 8) and Elbert Craig (No. 12) were among the top scorers for the Flight Controllers, dominating the scoreboard. At half-time, Security Forces trailed by a mere five points. Going into the second half, the score was 24-19 Flight Controllers, but Security Forces fought to hold on. With 5:52 left in the game, the Security Forces were one point behind, but could not get ahead. "We struggled to stay ahead defensively in the second half of the game," said Sherwin Lockridge (No. 15) of the Security Forces. With Brandon Sistrunk (No. 6) and Ernie Surber (No. 14), he was a key shooter for the team. "It was a well-played game," Lockridge said, "on both sides."
