72nd OSS welcomes new leader Published Feb. 19, 2010 By Brandice J. Armstrong Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Welcome back Lt. Col. Daniel Furleigh. Standing in front of approximately 125 attendees, the colonel succeeded Lt. Col. Jay "TJ" Stull as the 72nd Operations Support Squadron commander. The event was held Feb. 8 in the Tinker Club ballroom. Colonel Stull retires from the Air Force today. "Dan is a rising star in his functional community," said Col. Allen Jamerson, 72nd Air Base Wing and installation commander, who served as the presiding official. "This assignment commanding the 72nd OSS will bring to bear all the expertise that he has acquired and test the leadership capabilities he has developed over these many years. It's a lofty challenge, but his experience and education prepared him to take this squadron to new heights." Colonel Furleigh, a career airfield operations-support officer, served at Tinker from November 2006 to August 2007. During that time, he was the chief of fixed-base airfield operations requirements at the Air Force Flight Standards Agency. Upon his exit from Tinker, the colonel attended Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., and served as the director of Operations for the 23rd Operations Support Squadron at Moody Air Force Base, Ga. "Colonel Jamerson, thank you for the job opportunity; it's something I've been looking forward to since the phone call back in late November," Colonel Furleigh said. "I'm very excited to be here and I look forward to the challenge." Colonel Stull arrived at Tinker in July 2008. During Colonel Stull's tenure, the squadron accomplished several feats. The squadron earned the best Air Force Materiel Command Air Traffic and Weather Operations inspection ratings, ran the Air Force's largest active-duty post aviation resource management program and completed 11 airfield projects worth more than $34 million. "None of this would have happened without the great leadership that Lt. Col. TJ Stull provided," Colonel Jamerson said. "TJ, thanks for everything you've done at Tinker Air Force Base. You can leave this command and finish your career knowing that you made a tremendous difference and you gave it your absolute best. And the best part is, the squadron responded in kind." Quoting music legends Meat Loaf and Reba McEntire, Colonel Stull reflected on his tenure, thanked various units within the 72nd Air Base Wing and his squadron for a job well done, and wished the new commander well. "Dan, you're taking over a great squadron and I'm confident you'll do an outstanding job and lead the thunderhawks to greater heights in the next two years," Colonel Stull said, "best of luck to you, and your family."
