Space Camp scholarships available Published Feb. 19, 2010 Tinker Youth Center TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- ir Force Services Child and Youth Programs is sponsoring the Air Force Space Camp Program at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala. The camp is scheduled to be conducted July 25-30. The center is the premier provider of authentic, inspiring and entertaining educational experiences in space science and aviation. Forty-eight scholarships are available for youth, ages 12 to 18, to participate in the program. The camp is divided into two age divisions: 32 youth, ages 12 to 14, are selected to participate in the Space Academy and 16 teens, ages 15 to 18, are selected for the Advanced Space Academy. This program is open to family members of active duty military assigned to or living on an Air Force installation, retired Air Force military members, Air Force civilian employees, or activated Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve. Airline or personal vehicle travel costs to Huntsville are the responsibility of the attendees. All lodging, meals and activity fees after arrival at Space Camp are available at no cost to attendees. Attendees participate in a wide variety of physical activities, hands-on experiences and classroom activities. Interested youth with a minimum GPA of 2.8 can complete the electronic fill-in nomination form and submit it to their installation's Youth Programs or pick up an application at the Youth Center. Youth may only participate in the AF Space Camp Program once unless they participated in the Space Academy and are now eligible for the Advanced Space Academy. All interested youth must complete and submit their application to Youth Center by April 6. At time of submission, an interview will need to be scheduled during the week of April 12-16.
