Nordiques gouge Pokes Published Jan. 22, 2010 By John Stuart Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- If it were a foot race, the Nordiques would've been cooked. Thankfully it was just a good old fashioned hockey game, because the Nordiques? They know what they're doing in the barn. In a showing of team cohesion, the Nordiques peppered their Oklahoma State University (Div. Two) opponents with effective passing and quick line changes, overcoming the relative speed disadvantage. And the proof was in the frozen rubber, as Tinker beat the Pokes 5-3 and improved to 7-2 overall. "These guys came at us quick and we had to stay on them," Tinker player Jeremy Brennan said. "They have the age and the speed on us. They had a lot of talent but played as individuals." Tinker's win was aided by two quick goals in the first seven minutes of the first period. Bryson Harley scored with 13:18 on the clock on an assist from Brennan, to put Tinker on the board. Jim Behn was up next, as he scored on a solo shot from the right hash. Behn also found purchase in the second period with 15:30 on the clock, on a coast-to-coast solo goal. With 12:30 on the clock Kyle Bostic also notched a solo goal to round out the period. OSU clung to life in the third period when they scored two early goals, including one power play, to make it 4-3. But solid defense and time-burning passes by the Nordiques chipped away at the clock. Bryson Harley made the final goal for Tinker with :58 seconds left on an open netter. "We used a lot of cycling and spread for the long passes," Brennan said. And now, with nine games under the Nordiques' belt this season, the team is firing on all cylinders and showing how tough they can be when playing as a team. The Nordiques play again Jan. 24 at 3:30 p.m. at the Arctic Edge Ice Arena in Edmond
