The Air Force has openings for first-term Airmen to retrain into the Flight Engineer, Flight Attendant and UAS Sensor Operator specialties

In addition to the FTA openings, staff and technical sergeants interested in a flying specialty may retrain under the Noncommissioned Officer Retraining Program to the following positions: Flight Engineer, Loadmaster, Airborne Mission Systems, Airborne Operations, Flight Attendant, Aerial Gunner, and UAS Sensor Operator.

"Every open position is an opportunity for Airmen to volunteer to meet a critical need of the Air Force," said Chief Master Sgt. Robert "Stump" Thom, the CEA functional manager for ACC. "We have incredibly talented people looking for new challenges, retraining into a critical AFS is the embodiment of service before self."

The retraining window for FTA is between the 35th and 43rd month of total active military service for 4-year enlistees and between the 59th and 67th month for 6-year enlistees. Additionally FTA's may apply early (at the half-way point in their enlistment) for certain critically manned AFSC's.

"The retraining process is relatively straight forward, however to increase your chances to succeed it is important to start the retraining process during the first month of eligibility," said Master Sgt. Dana Reynolds, the 72nd ABW Career Assistance Advisor.

Descriptions of each of the enlisted aviation career fields and a retraining tutorial are also located on the Career Enlisted Aviator Recruiting and Retention Community of Practice at https://afkm.wpafb.af.mil/cea.
