Nordiques taunt Beavers a second time in shutout win Published Nov. 12, 2009 By John Stuart Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- It was the same routine but on a different day for the Tinker Nordiques hockey team. The Nordiques faced off against the Fighting Beavers Nov. 8 for the second time in consecutive weeks and came away with an 8-0 trouncing in their second game of the season. Fill-in goalie Justin Paquet stepped in for the Nordiques and made some big stops early in the game on his way to a shutout of the Beavers -- the second shutout in two weeks for the physical Nordiques who beat the Beavers 9-0 Nov. 1. "Our goalie for this game, he wasn't our usual goalie, but he stepped in this game and made some timely saves early in the game and that kind of set the tone," said Nordiques captain James McCarron, who drew first blood late in the opening period as he notched one on the board and wet the scoring whistle. John Jenkins and Bryson Harley each earned goals in the second period as Tinker began amassing a comfortable lead. The Nordiques went on a tear in the third period, scoring five goals to close out the match. Jenkins sunk a pair of goals while Jeremy Brennan, Chris Horner and Mark Keown each found the back of the net to leave it at 8-0. McCarron is impressed with the team's performance so far but said stiffer competition is on the way in coming weeks. "We played really well. I think we definitely will face some stronger teams and that's going to help us," McCarron said. "Playing a team like this, you make little mistakes that a better team could capitalize on."
