First sergeants share PT wear guidelines Published Nov. 6, 2009 First Sergeants Association TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The Tinker First Sergeants would like to pass along the latest Air Force PT Uniform wear guidance. These standards supersede guidance contained in the current AFI 36-2903, Figure 2.6, and will be incorporated in the update of AFI 36-2903 currently under revision. Air Force headquarters has published the following guidance, effective immediately, regarding PT uniform wear standards: · The AF PT uniform must be worn during all physical fitness assessments and while participating in organized PT events as designated by the commander. · Short sleeve and long sleeve shirts will be tucked into shorts or running pants at all times. Do not remove, cut, or push up sleeves. · Plain, conservative athletic shoes with no loud colors or excessive ornamentation will be worn. · Socks must be white, and may contain a small trademark logo. · Jacket must be zipped at least halfway between the collar and waistband. Sleeves must end within 1 inch of the wrist. · The waistband of the running pants will rest at or within two inches of the natural waistline. Both pant legs will extend below the ankles and will be zipped to within one inch of the bottom. · Sweatshirt will extend no lower than 6 inches below the natural waistline. · Either short or full-length solid black or dark blue spandex may be worn and visible under the shorts. · The knit watch cap must be plain, without logos and either solid black, dark blue or sage green. · Gloves must be plain, without logos and either solid black or dark blue. · Gloves, watch cap, scarf and earmuffs may be worn outdoors only. · Green or black fleece is not authorized to be worn with PTU. · Headphones/earphones are authorized while in the fitness center or on designated running areas unless prohibited by the installation commander. · All personal grooming standards apply while wearing the PTU with the following exception: long female hair will be secured but may have loose ends. · Proper military customs and courtesies like honoring the flag during reveille/retreat apply (i.e. coming to full attention and rendering the proper military salute when outdoors). Since this applies to PT assessments, PTL's are urged to avoid conducting assessments during revile/retreat. · Saluting due to rank recognition is not required when wearing the PTU.
