In honor of Energy Awareness month, the 72nd Civil Engineering Directorate will host an energy expo Oct. 29. Highlighting the theme, "Putting all the pieces together," the expo will showcase commercial vendors and on-base units.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Tinker Club ballroom, energy-oriented vendors, 72nd CE officials, 72nd Maintenance Engineering Section representatives and base environmental officials will be on-hand to answer questions and display new technologies.

"The purpose is to expose Tinker personnel to the new technologies that are out there," said John Hurd, Tinker's energy manager. "We call it an energy expo, but it's really all encompassing as far as green technologies and what we are on the base. So, it's an energy expo with environmental aspects."

As vendors show their goods, Mr. Hurd said environmental officials will offer displays with a recycling and waste management angle. Maintenance engineering folks will also be available for discussion on building issues and how to get them resolved.

"If you have a facility that's too cold, too hot, or the lighting is terrible, they will help you determine the best way to get that fixed," Mr. Hurd said.

Other items scheduled to be on display are the University of Oklahoma electric race car and an electric vehicle called the Wheego.

Attendees may also be eligible for door prizes, which include home thermal surveys, in which CE officials will venture to a winner's house and using an infrared camera determine if thermal energy is escaping through a window, door or an insulation spot.
