New leader takes over OSI Det

Special Agent Danny Powers sat behind a large desk. Dressed in civilian clothes, the new commander of Air Force Office of Special Investigations Detachment 114 spoke about goals for the unit.

Special Agent Powers, who succeeded Special Agent-in-Charge Jack Angelo in late August, said the detachment already runs efficiently and there are few changes he will make. Special Agent Powers said those accomplishments are due to SAIC Angelo, who reflected on his tenure before departing Tinker.

"The detachment is pretty well established already -- good agents and good casework," said Special Agent Powers. "What I bring to the table is more process-driven."

Special Agent Powers came to Tinker from Scott Air Force Base, Ill., where he was the counterintelligence support officer at the United States Transportation Command.

New to Oklahoma, the Wisconsin native said the cost of living and people are similar to what he experienced at Scott AFB. And while he does have Air Force Materiel Command understanding, Tinker, its wings and the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center will take some getting used to.

Despite his rookie status here, the colonel, who has nearly 18 years in the Air Force and roughly 14 years in OSI, said he is ready to get to work. His goals include helping mentor agents in more sufficient investigative techniques and focus them on local commander priorities; and reclaiming the Detachment of the Year award, an honor the unit won during SAIC Angelo's three-year tenure.

"During my tenure we were the best OSI detachment in Air Force Materiel Command and second-best in the Air Force," SAIC Angelo said.

Additionally, Det. 114 scored an "excellent" rating on their unit compliance inspection in March 2008.

"These accomplishments were brought about by the outstanding men and women assigned to the OSI detachment here at Tinker," SAIC Angelo said. "We're here to support all the commanders, all the senior leaders on base, and provide them a factual, timely and unbiased report so they can make informed leadership decisions. It's always easier when we have people that understand our mission and who are willing to provide as much support as they can."

SAIC Angelo arrived at Tinker in July 2006 and recently relocated to Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C., to be the OSI Director of Operations for Special Projects.
