Strategic Communications Wing ONE was selected as the recipient of the Omaha Trophy for 2008. The award, announced Aug. 19, was for the category of Strategic Aircraft Operations.

"I'm ecstatic with this selection and extremely honored," said Capt. Dwight Shepherd, commander of Strategic Communications Wing ONE. "It reinforces what I have always thought about our great Sailors, civilians and contractors. Their focus on mission accomplishment is second to none. When called upon, they will flawlessly execute the vital mission of strategic aircraft operations and nuclear deterrence."

The wing was one of four organizations that received the award in their respective categories. Selection for each award is based on formal evaluations, meritorious achievement, safety and other factors such as community involvement and humanitarian actions.

"Each year, the United States Strategic Command and the Strategic Command Consultation Committee present the Omaha Trophy to the men and women who demonstrate the "best of best," supporting the command's lines of operation day in and day out," said General Kevin P. Chilton, U.S. Strategic Command commander.

"The Omaha Trophy is a prestigious award recognizing outstanding accomplishments of warfighters conducting strategic deterrence, space and cyberspace missions every day, providing global security for America.

It also demonstrates the unique and close partnership we have with our Omaha community, their ongoing support and recognition of excellence in our service members."

The Wing previously won the Omaha Trophy in 1997 and 1999. The award will be presented at a date yet to be determined.
