Commander’s Action Line: Parking in base housing

Q: Can something be done to enforce the parking rules in base housing? I understand that the 72nd Security Forces Squadron has a map that breaks down what side of the street is "legal" to park on. Currently there are cars parked on both sides of some streets, facing on-coming traffic, which is also prohibited. Having cars on both sides of the street makes it extremely difficult to navigate through housing and dangerous for kids crossing the roads as there are more spots for them to pop out.

A: Thank you for your question and comments. You are correct with regard to the parking rules in base housing. In accordance with Tinker Supplement to AFI 31-204, paragraph 4.8.25, "Vehicles may be parked with the flow of traffic on the street parallel to curbs in the Tinker housing area providing the curbing is not painted and parking is not otherwise restricted. Vehicles will not be parked in any manner that would obstruct the flow of vehicular traffic or hinder the response of emergency vehicles." Security Forces will provide additional focus on housing parking and issue citations as appropriate. If you identify any future infractions of our base traffic regulations, contact the Security Forces Operations Section at 734-2878.
