The Swingers captured their sixth consecutive civilian league championship with a shut out victory over the Geckos Aug. 24.

The Geckos, fresh off a 16-13 comeback victory over the Defense Information Systems Agency, were poised to give the Swingers a run for the title. But they couldn't muster any runs in the championship game and lost 16-0.

The Swingers got rolling from the first pitch and were never contested throughout the game. They scored three, eight and five runs in the first three innings en route to their 17th consecutive win of the 2009 season.

The Swingers stars were Bud Cox, who hit two towering three-run home runs over the left field fence; Doak Vishon, who hit a towering solo blast over the centerfield porch; and Bobby Barbee, who sealed the victory with a deep three-run shot over the right centerfield fence.

"We were able to score runs in bunches," said Swingers head coach Robert Mahan. "Our key to the championship was our defense. We did not have any errors and made the plays when we needed them."

The Swingers now await the winner of the Base Softball Championship. A one-game match up against the military champions will give one team bragging rights.
