It's "game on" for the new commander of the 72nd Security Forces Squadron, Lt. Col. Troy A. Roberts, as he assumed command July 30 from Lt. Col. Lisette D. Childers, who is retiring after a 20-year Air Force career.

Colonel Roberts comes to Tinker from Guam, where he commanded the 736th SFS at Andersen Air Force Base. This is his third command assignment.

"You come to us with an impressive resume," said Col. Herbert H. Wesselman, commander of the 72nd Mission Support Group. Speaking during the change of command ceremony, Col. Wesselman said Col. Robert's past assignments have prepared him for command of the largest non-nuclear security forces squadron in the Air Force. "You're ready," he said. "They are a solid team and I know under your leadership they will aspire to even greater accomplishments."

Colonel Roberts said his tenure at Tinker will be marked by teamwork, professionalism and high standards. Teamwork, he said, is essential to any organization and the professionalism will include "our core values, creeds and oaths." As for standards, Colonel Roberts says he is setting them high.

"It is my goal that we will be the best Security Forces Squadron in AFMC and the Air Force," he said, adding that it is now "game on" in his new command.

Colonel Roberts has served in a variety of duties, including chief of security forces for a detachment at a Royal Air Force base in Cyprus and has deployed to South America for Operations Constant Vigil and Laser Strike combating drug trafficking. He has also deployed to the United Arab Emirates as a chief of security forces before his tenure at Guam.

Colonel Childers bid her squadron farewell after a two-year assignment interrupted by a deployment to Iraq. Just three months after assuming command of the 72nd SFS, Colonel Childers deployed to Iraq to take command of a 550-member team deployed to the country.

"The last two years have been a bit of a whirlwind," Colonel Childers said.

Despite that, said Colonel Wesselman, Colonel Childers managed to restructure operations to allow for the smooth deployment of security forces members to support flyaway teams for the 552nd Air Control Wing.

During her 20-year career, Colonel Childers spent two assignments in the United Kingdom before taking command of a security forces squadron in Alaska. She also commanded the 474th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron at Camp Sather in Baghdad, Iraq, before assuming command of the 72nd SFS in 2007.

Colonel Childers said she was privileged and honored to command the 72nd SFS, saying they are a remarkable team who have taken on many challenges and accomplished much. "We ask an amazing amount from each of you," she said. "And time and time again you came through.
