Nordiques win streak alive at 5 with 5-2 victory Published July 23, 2009 By John E. Banks Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE,Okla. -- The Tinker Nordiques hockey club continued winning with a dominant team performance by defeating the Fighting Beavers 5-2 at the Blazers Ice Centre on July 19. "Our team is really starting to play as a well-oiled machine throughout the middle part of the season," said James McCarron, Tinker Nordiques co-captain. The Nordiques controlled the play during the first period of play. They peppered the Fighting Beavers netminder with 22 shots on goal, but couldn't get the puck past him. The game was scoreless through the first period. The Nordiques came out blazing in the second period. The first of their three goals came after Tyler Miller scored on a rebound of a James Behn shot. After a center ice interception at the 1:21 mark, Behn raced in and flicked a shot toward the net. Miller poked the rebound past the goaltender giving the Nordiques the 1-0 lead. The second goal of the period was a reverse of the first one. Miller fed Behn at center ice and he went all alone on breakaway and shot the puck through the five-hole, increasing the Nordiques lead to 2-0 at 13:21. At 16:21, Jason Stefanski scored the third goal of the period. Center Jeremy Brennan sent a pass to Stefanski, who skated in on the left side of the net and sent a quick wrist shot into the net. The Nordiques scored an early goal in the first five minutes of the third period to put the game away. Brennan tallied his sixth goal in the last four games on a feed from Behn and Miller at 3:19. The Beavers scored two quick goals to make the score 4-2. The Nordiques finished out the scoring at 11:00 of the third period on a breakaway goal by McCarron. It was his 12th goal of the season. "This team is really playing as a unit now," McCarron said. "We get contributions from all of our players and our goaltending is the tops in the league. This is a recipe for a championship." The win improves the Nordiques record to 4-2-1. The three stars of the game were Behn and Miller, who had a goal and two assists apiece, and Brennan, who had a goal and an assist.
