Golfers take advantage of offers at Tinker course Published July 10, 2009 By Kimberly Woodruff 72nd Force Support Squadron Marketing TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Golf is in full swing at the Tinker Golf Course and July is loaded with family friendly programs for "Family Golf Month" to keep families entertained and golfing. In addition to family outings, there are quite a few tournaments coming up. Tinker Golf Course offers something for everyone, including military, dependents, retirees, Department of Defense civilians and contractors. Anyone with a base ID card and access to the base can play golf at Tinker. July 14 is "Bring Your Daughter to the Course Day" with a clinic from 10:30 a.m. until noon. The clinic includes professional staff instruction, the use of free range balls and adult or youth clubs. After the clinic ends, enjoy free hot dogs and sodas. For those who want to continue and practice their new found skills, the daughter's green fee is free when accompanied by a paying adult. There will be free family golf clinics on July 11, 18 and 25 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Professional instruction includes putting, chipping, irons and woods, rules and etiquette. Clubs will be provided. Lastly, family golf play days have been set aside for July 12, 19 and 26. A block of tee times is reserved beginning at 2 p.m. and kids' green fees are free when accompanied by an adult purchasing their green fee. Hot dogs and soda will be served following play. Get the little ones into golf with Golf 4 Kids, a beginner youth development program that makes learning the game easy, affordable and fun. Classes include eight hours of small group instruction, three on course playing experiences and free use of rental clubs during the clinic. The cost is $49 per child with free use of rental clubs or $99 for the class and child's own set of clubs to keep. Classes will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. July 13-16, July 20-23 and Aug. 3-6. Golf 4 Kids "the Deuce," a more advanced continuation of golf lessons will take place July 27-30 and Aug. 10-13. Tinker Golf Course holds several clinics throughout the summer. The clinics are designed to introduce or reintroduce players, from the age of 7 on up, to the game to ensure a lifetime of enjoyment. Link up 2 Golf clinics are scheduled from 5:30-7 p.m. July 16 to Aug. 13 and Aug. 25 to Sept. 22. This is a fantastic program with an emphasis on general course knowledge and swing mechanics. Students feel more at ease when on the course or visiting the facility. Tournament season is the perfect time to be a golfer. The Club Championship will be held July 25-26 and is open to all eligible Tinker personnel. All players must have a verifiable handicap as this tournament is flighted by individual handicap. The price is $25 per player plus green fees and cart rental. Gift certificates will be awarded for low gross in each flight and overall net scores. Entries will be accepted through July 21. The Civilian Welfare Tournament will be held July 31. Shotgun start is at 1 p.m. following lunch. The tournament is open to all Tinker civilian personnel. The cost is just $40 per player which includes green fees and cart rental. Advanced green fee and punch cards may be used. Teams will be made of four players and the tournament is open to the first 36 teams. There will be closest to the pin and long drive contests. Entries are being accepted at the Golf Course through July 28. There is something going on at Tinker Golf Course for everyone from novice to pro golfer. So get out there and Play Golf Tinker!
