Commander’s Action Line: Conserving energy Published July 10, 2009 By 72nd Air Base Wing TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Q:There are two exterior doors in Bldg. 3001 that are left open for most of the day and either let the hot air in or the cold air out. If there were some way to post these doors to be closed when not in use I think it would help conserve energy. The door locations are as follows: Bldg 3001 between columns M-37 and M-38 Bldg 3001 between columns O-31 and P-31. A:Thank you for your efforts to conserve energy. Every organization at the base must take a proactive stance in reducing energy demands, including closing overhead and hangar doors in air-conditioned buildings after each use. Recently, we have been made aware of several situations similar to this, in particular when aircraft are being moved. The Civil Engineer Directorate will address this issue by contacting facility managers and by discussing the issue during the Energy Management Working Group. Opening doors is unavoidable; however, leaving a door open wastes energy and costs us all. In the future, when these situations occur, contact the appropriate facility manager for the area or your organizational building representative.
