Members of the 72nd Security Forces Squadron took on the heat and each other with their first annual Ruck March, covering 4.3 miles in 10 four-man teams. Each participant carried a rucksack weighing 35 pounds.

"We start as a team and we finish as a team," said Tech. Sgt. David Magness. "It's going to be fun."

Capt. Robert Prausa said the goal of the march is to build team spirit and motivate members of the unit. Airmen and several of their civilian counterparts participated. The teams started at Security Forces headquarters near Eaker Gate on the north side of Tinker and finished at the Hill Conference Center near Gott Gate on the southern side of the base.

Carrying the 72nd SFS's guidon, the winning four-man team reached the final rendezvous in 45 minutes, with most of the remaining teams arriving well within an hour. Sergeant Magness and his team finished second. "We didn't do too badly," he said.

Aside from leading the march, the winning team also walked off with a three-day pass.
