2-month project outside Eaker Gate Published June 12, 2009 By Howdy Stout Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Oklahoma City's Department of Public Works will begin work later this month on the two bridges spanning Interstate 40, right outside Tinker's Eaker Gate. Work is scheduled to begin June 22 and last for 60 days. Eaker Gate will remain open, but expect traffic delays as road volume will be reduced by half as north and southbound traffic will be routed along each bridge while the other bridge undergoes repairs. "We're going to basically close one bridge at a time," said Ed deGraffenried, project manager supervisor with the city's Department of Public Works. "Each bridge should take two to three weeks, depending on weather." Construction crews will use hydro-demolition to remove loose concrete before repairing the bridge deck surfaces, concrete overlays, expansion joints and sidewalks. Work will normally occur from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, depending on weather and scheduling. Work should be completed within two months. In addition, on base, F Avenue from Eaker Gate to Arnold Avenue will be closed from July 2 to Aug. 16 for work.
