32nd CCS strikes past 33rd CCS 6-2 Published May 19, 2009 By John E. Banks Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The 2009 intramural soccer playoffs got off to a quick start on May 11 at the Airman Leadership School Soccer Field as the 32nd Combat Communications Squadron used a quick strike attack to defeat the 33rd CCS squad 6-2. "Our season has been a rough one so far. However, our team puts forth maximum effort each and every time we play," said Kelly Heinz, 33rd CCS head coach. The game was played on a rain soaked field and the wind played a factor as both teams tried to gain the advantage early in the first half. The 32nd CCS got on the board at the 24:24 mark of the first stanza as striker Ryan Cormier sent a pass from the midfield line to fellow striker William Kaye. Each team had scoring chances throughout the rest of the half, but both goaltenders were up to the task and the score stayed 1-0. The first 10 minutes of the second half determined the outcome of the contest. Cormier scored another goal from the penalty area increasing the 32nd CCS lead to 2-0. The third goal of the game was by far the most artistic. 32nd CCS forward Megan Engelhart sent a gorgeous cross field pass from outside the penalty area and then Cormier lifted a quick shot into the right corner of the net making the score 3-0 at 8:28. Cormier tallied three more goals in the contest, giving him five for the night. "He stole the show tonight," said Engelhart. The goals for the 33rd CCS were by midfielder Alberto Padilla and forward David Sebring. "We were a little outmanned tonight, but I was very proud of our effort," said Heinz.
