Tinker police enforcing parking standards

Over the past several months illegal parking on the installation has increased causing safety hazards, antiterrorism issues and emergency response problems.

Other areas of concern are individuals parking in streets and parking lots that block or conflict with traffic movement.

To help eliminate future problems, the 72nd Security Forces Squadron and trained parking wardens will be out in full force, writing tickets to all illegally parked personnel. Areas not marked specifically for parking are considered "no parking."

Individuals who ride motorcycles, scooters and segways are authorized to park in normal parking spaces when motorcycle-only spaces are full or non-existent. All individuals are responsible for the safe operation and parking of their personal vehicles while on Tinker, whether operated by themselves or someone else. Individual's that receive a parking citation will be subject to having their vehicle towed at the owner's expense.

The following is a list of offenses that warrant a ticket in accordance with Tinker AFB Supplement 31-204, Air Force Motor Vehicle Traffic Supervision:

-- Unauthorized parking in any space or area appropriately signed or painted so as to designate a "No Parking Area"

-- Unauthorized parking in handicap spaces

-- Parking in a reserved parking space by any person whose vehicle does not bear the appropriate parking decal/placard is prohibited

-- Parking in restricted parking spaces except by persons to whom the spaces are assigned

-- Parking within 8 feet of each side of doorways

-- Parking on yellow or red bumper blocks or curbing

-- Parking on pedestrian crosswalks

-- Parking in motor vehicle traffic ways

-- Parking of a vehicle in two or more spaces

-- Parking on any grass or seeded area is prohibited, unless otherwise posted

-- Backing into spaces where the vehicle will be facing the flow of traffic when diagonally parked

-- Parking within 25 feet of trash dumpsters

-- Parking in any area not specifically designated by white lines as a parking space

-- Parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant

-- Parking within 20 feet of a stop sign or traffic control device before an intersection

-- Vehicles will not be parked in spaces or areas that will not accommodate the vehicle

-- Vehicles must fit within marked white lines properly. No vehicle or trailer may occupy more than one space at a time

-- Vehicles cannot be parked in ramp areas blocking hangar doors
