Tinker Installation Wellness Day set Published April 30, 2009 By Brandice J. Armstrong Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla., -- Tinker's inaugural "Wellness Day" debuts May 8. The all-day event focuses on the four dimensions -- physical, emotional, spiritual and social -- of a healthy individual. "It's an opportunity for all personnel to examine where they're at in the four dimensions of wellness and participate in at least one activity in the four dimensions," said Lt. Col. Jill Scheckel, Integrated Delivery Systems chair, the group that hosts the event. IDS a group that promotes community services and organizations. "I encourage everyone to participate in all the dimensions, or at least focus on one area they tend to neglect and build that dimension up a little bit," Colonel Scheckel said. Often compared to an aircraft's tie-downs, the four dimensions work best when all are uniform in strength. If one or more dimensions are neglected, the remaining healthy dimensions must work overtime to maintain a sense of balance. Wellness Day is held in conjunction with the 552nd Air Control Wing's Safety Day, held at Bldg. 230's Dock 2. Offering informational booths and interactive activities, Safety Day promotes on and off-base organizations. The event is also open to base personnel. IDS members brainstormed the Wellness Day concept earlier this year as a fun way to bring awareness to the upcoming "101 Critical Days of Summer" campaign. "Wellness Day is a way to remind the Tinker community of the wingman concept and what it means to take care of ourselves and others," Colonel Scheckel said. "With the right attitude, anyone can benefit. [As Airmen,] we always strive to better ourselves and this is one avenue to do that."
