OC-ALC commander shares vision for center Published April 24, 2009 By Brandice J. Armstrong Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla., -- Maj. Gen. P. David Gillett Jr. knows a thing or two about Tinker Air Force Base. This is his second tour here and the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center commander said Tinker has a consistently outstanding workforce, supportive community and a reputation for contributing to the mission. General Gillett, who took command of the center in January, has since outlined the center's vision, "One team: the aerospace logistics provider of choice." The general said he is confident Tinker personnel will identify with this vision and accomplish the newly defined objectives. "What we do on a daily basis makes a difference for the Airmen, Marines, Soldiers and Sailors in Iraq and Afghanistan" said General Gillett. "Our workforce is highly qualified to do the job they do." General Gillett's strategic goals for fiscal 2010 are: "meet the customer's aircraft-availability requirements, develop and care for our people to enable success, improve depot maintenance productivity to maximize opportunities and improve mission readiness and support." "We have to be more productive in our operations, because we have to be competitive," the general said. "There are lots of other people out there that can do the work we do. Nobody owes us that work. We have to earn it." To achieve the objectives, the general said it is important for the center's workforce to understand the strategic goals, and make achieving them a priority. If units don't work together, the general said, the Air Force suffers. "Our method is to drive behavior through measuring the things that are the most important to us," General Gillett said. "We'll prioritize our resources -- people, equipment and money -- to focus our efforts around our most important goals and objectives. Everybody's in, so everybody has a contribution and they need to know their contribution counts." By adhering to the new ALC vision, General Gillett said he is certain the center will bring in the right workload. "I want to do my part to make the center the best that it can be and continue the journey Lt. Gen. Loren Reno and many other previous commanders started. We are building on their work to move this center forward to excellence," General Gillett said "We have all the right elements for success. We have a highly qualified and motivated workforce, we have the right infrastructure and, we have outstanding community support. Our plan is to take Tinker to the next level of excellence.
