Hopefully, the last winter blast of arctic air graced central Oklahoma. The longer days, more sunshine and an increase of temperature have given the runners of the Tinker Running Club time to prepare for the 27th annual Redbud Classic, which will be held this weekend.

"This will be a great opportunity to see if all the training we have been doing over the past year pays off," said Marcia Walker, 327th Air Sustainment Wing.

The Redbud Classic is for running and bicycling enthusiasts. It is an Oklahoma City custom connecting community through physical fitness and charitable giving.

"I believe this event helps the runners at Tinker support community and fitness," said Walker.

The Tinker Running Club has a contingent of 17 runners prepared to test their skills and training on the 10 kilometer course.

"This is most runners we have had participating in the Redbud Classic," said Danny Ponder, president of the Tinker Running Club.

This event will help prepare the runners for the upcoming 2009 Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon.

"Last year I ran the half marathon and with the training for the Redbud Classic it will help me better prepare for the marathon," said Walker.

"The Tinker Running Club forms teams each year for the Redbud Classic 10K in April and the Tulsa Run 15K in October. Both team events are to promote participation and some good running camaraderie," said Ponder.
