The Tinker Hawks Can Am hockey team set a team record with its fifth consecutive win March 22.

The Hawks defeated Chesapeake 7-3 in an Oklahoma City Adult Hockey League Division II matchup at the Arctic Edge Ice Arena.

"Tonight we want to put together a complete game and get geared up for the upcoming playoff run," said James McCarran.

The Hawks got on the scoreboard early and often. McCarran led the onslaught by scoring two quick goals during first five minutes of action. His first came on a cross ice pass from defenseman Chris Beatty. The second came on a drop pass from center Jason Stefanski.

The scoring continued two minutes later as McCarran returned the favor, setting up Stefanski, who lifted a backhander into the top corner to put the Hawks up by three goals. McCarran rounded out the scoring in the first period with his third goal of the game. He took a pass from Beatty as he crossed the blue line and rifled a blistering slap shot past the Chesapeake goaltender at 16:26 increasing the score to 4-0.

"That was a fun period. We passed well and were clicking on all cylinders," said McCarran.

Chesapeake scored two quick goals to cut the Hawks lead in half early in the secod period.

The Hawks responded with a late goal as Beatty scored on a power play. He took a quick pass from center Miguel Lopez and scored on the short side of the net to make the score 5-2 with 1:12 remaining in period two.

The third period was dominated from start to finish by the Hawks. The Hawks outshot their opponent 20-6. The Hawks got goals from Beatty and center Jeremy Brennan. Chesapeake scored a goal late in the contest to make the final score 7-3.

"We got contributions from our big guns, McCarran and Stefanski. Also, Beatty had a great offensive game from his defenseman position," said Lopez.

The three stars of the game were McCarran, who had three goals and two assists; Beatty, who had two goals and two assists; and Stefanski, who had a goal and three assists. The victory improves the Hawks to 13-4 on the year, while the loss drops Chesapeake to 7-8-2.
