Tinker Sailor supports Blazers Published March 19, 2009 By John E. Banks Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla., -- Jeff Migdal, a Sailor with Fleet Reconnaissance Squadron FOUR at Tinker, recently came to the rescue of the local minor league hockey team. After one of the Oklahoma City Blazers' regular goalies had to leave the team due to a family emergency, Migdal got a call from the head coach asking him to serve as the emergency backup goaltender for the Central Hockey League team. "It is a thrill and joy to suit up and play for the Blazers," Migdal said. "I was thrilled to get the chance at a game in the Ford Center." The Blazers have historically picked up players from Tinker to serve in backup roles to support the organization. In 2003-04, the Blazers used the assistance of Sean Broderick. He served in the same capacity as Migdal and played in a game against the Tulsa Oilers. "Tinker is a great pool to pick from," said Josh Evans, the Blazers assistant general manager. "They had a wide range of athletes who have a vast array of athletic talent to have at our disposal. "Our goal with the Blazers is to fill an open spot with the best available player for that position. Jeff was available and we picked him up," Evans said. "The team loves when a new guy gets into the lineup."
