AFMC commander set to visit Tinker Published March 6, 2009 By Brandice J. Armstrong Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla., -- The commander of the Air Force Materiel Command, Gen. Donald Hoffman, is coming to Tinker. The general is slated to arrive March 11 for a two-day orientation visit. This visit will be his first to Tinker since his brief stay for the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center change of command in January. During his visit, General Hoffman will be briefed by Tinker's senior leaders and is expected to tour the air logistics center's aircraft maintenance lines, propulsion shops and also components of Tinker's nuclear mission. He is also scheduled to visit support units, hold a town hall meeting and have breakfast with enlisted Airmen. General Hoffman acquired command, and his four-star rank, Nov. 21, 2008. He is the seventh commander to lead AFMC. As commander, General Hoffman oversees 74,000 military and civilian personnel and an annual budget of $59 billion. He also directs acquisition management and logistics support. Prior to obtaining command, General Hoffman was the military deputy, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition. General Hoffman began his Air Force career in 1974 when he was commissioned through the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. Throughout his career he completed several staff and operational assignments. He is also an accomplished pilot with more than 3,400 flying hours.
