Tinker's Civilian Health Promotion Services is back in Bldg. 3001. This week, CHPS unveiled a second office at Post SGO9, also known as the "Lighthouse."

Offering the same services as in Bldg. 3334, the Bldg. 3001 locale is expected to be open for business twice a week.

"The majority of our civilian population is there and this way we're most accessible to them," said Janet Strayhorn, CHPS nurse coordinator. "We want everyone to live healthier, that is our goal."

Until a few months ago, CHPS had an office at Bldg. 3001's well-known Hollywood and Vine pedestrian intersection. But, due to another organization needing more space, the office was closed until new arrangements could be made.

CHPS is an Air Force Materiel Command program designed to promote healthy living and lifestyle changes by offering classes, seminars, literature and screenings to Air Force Materiel Command Department of Defense personnel at no cost.

The program offers more than a dozen classes including "Diabetes Basics," "High Blood Pressure," "Nutrition," "Benefits of Exercise" and women's health and men's health specialty classes. Screenings include cardiac risk profiles, which measures an individual's total cholesterol, as well as the parts of cholesterol - high and low density lipoprotein, triglycerides and blood glucose.

The program debuted in January 2005.
