One team in the Commanders Trophy League has distanced itself over the competition and has hopes of garnering its second championship in four years April 20.

The past three weeks of bowling competition at the Tinker Bowling Center, Hellifino has put the other teams on notice that they are vying for the title.

The team's streak over the past three weeks is nearly perfect, with 11 wins and only one loss. This mark enabled them to increase their lead to 11.5 games over the second place team, Split Happens.

Team captain Dennis March said each member of the squad has performed well individually, but it has been a team effort that has given them the lead in the overall standings.

"Our team has bowled well above our personal averages this year," he said. "We finished second last year and we were determined to right the ship."

The highlight of the season has been the 807 series by Karl Dooley. The high score is one of the top scores ever posted for a three-game set in the history of the Tinker Bowling Center.

"Although we have been successful this year, the camaraderie and our willingness to help out our fellow bowlers make this league enjoyable for all of us," said March.

With nine more weeks of bowling left in the 2009 season, the rest of the league must buck the current trend or Hellifino will reign once again as champions.
