Canadian Forces dominate Smart Alecks in 8-2 victory Published Feb. 11, 2009 By John E. Banks Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla., -- The Canadian Forces, a component of the 552nd Air Control Wing, continued its dominance in division 4 from the Oklahoma City Adult Hockey League with an 8-2 victory over the Smart Alecks Feb. 8 at the Blazers Ice Centre. The Canadians got off to a roaring start as they scored three goals within the first five minutes of period one. Forward Paul Whittington scored the first goal after he received a cross-ice pass from defenseman Jim Bell at the 3:41 mark. Forty-five seconds later, Whittington scored again, unassisted this time. Left-winger Luc Trembley scored on a rebound from a shot by Bell at 4:34 giving the CAF an insurmountable 3-0 advantage. The Smart Alecks rounded out the scoring in the first period as forward Thomas Wilson scored on a two-on-one break at 17:45 making the score 3-1. The second period was much of the same as the CAF scored two goals in succession midway through the period. The goals were tallied by Whittington Paul Burgwin. The goal by Whittington gave him his first hat trick of the season. The final scoring of the game came as Trembley tallied his second goal of the contest on a rebound shot from center Jerry Larkin. Larkin tallied his lone marker of the game two minutes later on a breakaway, making the final score 8-2. The stars of the game for CAF were Whittington, who scored three goals and an assist, Larkin, who had one goal and two assists, and Bell, who had two assists of his own. The win improves the CAF's league-leading record to 8-1-1, while the loss drops the Smart Alecks to 1-9.
