The bowling stars of the Commanders Trophy League returned to the lanes on Jan. 7 at the Tinker Bowling Center and the competition was hot and heavy. The combatants were the quintets of the Wildcatters and Vikings. The result was a split of match with each team taking four points apiece.

"We are going to show up and get it on," said Eric Harmon, captain for the Wildcatters. The first game of the match was a display of bowling prowess by Wildcatters' newcomer, Brett Nidiffer. He threw 10 consecutive strikes after opening the game with a spare.

"This guy is so smooth. He is the intimidator on our side," said Harmon.

Nidiffer posted a match-high 276 giving his side a convincing 1107-964 victory in game one.

The second game of the match was a reversal of fortunes for the Vikings. Anchor bowler and team captain, Brent Williams led a charge from frame one. He matched Nidiffer exploits strike for strike and rolled a team-high 268 giving his side a hard fought 1147-1082 game two victory.

"Our team bowls for the fun and the camaraderie. Friendly competition is always welcome and we enjoy this league and pitting our skills against our opponents," said Williams.

The rubber game of the match was worth the price of admission. Both teams struggled early but came on late to provide an intense finish.

It all came down to the final frame. Harmon and Nidiffer each rolled a spare and a strike in the 10th. However, Williams threw two strikes giving his side a game three victory 1064-1053 win.

"That was a blast," said Williams.

The total pins winner of the match was the Wildcatters giving each side a total of four points.

The split improved each team's season record. The Vikings are now 56.0-72.0 and Wildcatters are 83.0-45.0.
