327th ASW wins base championship Published Dec. 5, 2008 By John E. Banks Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla., -- The 2008 Flag Football Base Championship was a culmination of hard work, dedication and staying the course. This rang true as the 2008 base title was garnered by the 327th Air Sustainment Wing. They achieved base supremacy with a 21-14 victory over the large squadron champions, 72nd Medical Group on Nov. 20 at the Tinker Sports Complex. "This victory was the result we were wanting from the beginning of the season," said Mark Jansen, 327th ASW quarterback. Marquis Mitchell, 72nd MDG quarterback, used his quickness and speed in the open field to keep the 327th ASW defense at bay. The difference in the game was the throwing of Jansen and timely receptions of wide receivers Josh Brueing and David Ackland. The pass and catch combination of these three individuals was the 327th ASW's key to success. The Jansen to Bruening combination got things going early with a 40-yard pass which was an indication of things to come. In the first half, Jansen completed 14 of 19 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns, giving his side a 14-7 lead at the break. Ackland and tight end Yancy Scott were the touchdown makers in the first half for the 327th ASW, while Mitchell scored the lone touchdown for the 72nd MDG. "Our defense inspired us in the first half and that gave the impetus to go forward," said Jansen. Both teams exchanged touchdowns in the second half, making the final score 21-14 in favor of the 327th ASW. "We had a lot of drops and mental errors during this game," said 72nd MDG head coach Myrio Tindal. "We had numerous chances to take over the game and we did not take advantage of those chances." "This was a total team victory," said Jansen.
