The Gerrity Fitness and Sports Center will host the Tinker Air Force Boxing Smoker at 7 p.m. Nov. 14.

This year's smoker will feature 10 bouts as the Tinker Navy Boxing Team goes head to head with the Air Force Boxing Team as they once again battle it out for the Tinker title. Everyone with base access may attend free of charge to support their favorite Tinker team.

"These guys are going to bring the pain!" said Army Sgt. 1st Class Lavell Sims who coaches Air Force boxers, Airman 1st Class Theordoe Morse and Airman 1st Class Robert Faulkner. Six months ago, Morse stopped Faulkner in the third round with a technical knockout. Morse, a two-time Tinker champion, will duke it out with Faulkner for the heavyweight title belt once again.

Promising middleweight boxer, Airman 1st Class Cooper Davis, will make his debut in the Tinker ring.

Base coach Roberto Suarez is anxious to see what his boys can do.

"This is the best team I have ever assembled since I started in 1996," said Suarez.

Defending his lightweight title, 1st Lt. James Barber isn't a newcomer to the ring. With 10 fights under his belt and a record of eight wins and two losses, Barber is an Air Force champion and puts a lot of effort into his training and fighting.

Middleweight, Airman 1st Class Shawn Thurmen, is a good boxer, a puncher that's fast on his feet and has an Air Force championship under belt with three wins and no losses. Welterweight, Airman 1st Class Mike Hayward, is light on his feet, using his skills and defense techniques to out-smart his opponent.

Junior middleweight, Airman 1st Class David Jewel, is ready to take on all opponents. Boxers will be wearing the mandatory headgear, 16-ounce boxing gloves and mouthpieces for each bout. The smoker will feature amateur boxers in all weight division and each bout will consist of three, two-minute rounds.
