Tinker sets Wingman Day Nov. 14 Published Oct. 30, 2008 By Danielle Gregory Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla., -- Wingman Day, Nov. 14, is fast approaching and there are several activities offered to help strengthen the relationships among Tinker's most valuable asset, their people. The 72nd Air Base Wing will provide a central event at the base theatre that the entire base is encouraged to attend. The primary focus is to encourage all Airmen to be great Wingmen. "The Culture of Responsible Choices stresses good decision making in all facets of life for both young and old. One slogan that comes from the CoRC is 'work hard and play smart,'" said Michelle Loughlin, Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program manager. "Our Air Force leaders hope to change the way we think about the whole spectrum of issues, from drinking and drug use to healthy fitness behavior, sound financial management, vigorous suicide prevention, effective sexual assault response and prevention and safe practices at work, home and on vacation." Wingman Day activities are meant to promote wellness in emotional, social, physical and spiritual dimensions. Participants should understand the value of collaboration, teamwork and become more character-centered in their daily life. Small group activities or discussions are also suggested by breaking up into flight, element or work sections depending on the size of the organization. Officials encourage people to refrain from mandatory trainings and Power Point presentations. The importance for the day will be promoting interaction among individuals. Tinker Wingman activities include: Take the Wingman Wellness Survey. The responses given will directly impact the programs and services that AFMC develops. The survey only takes a few minutes to complete and all responses are confidential. On Wednesday, Larry Winget will teach universal financial principles that will work for anyone. The presentation will be held at the base theater from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. He encourages listeners to lighten up, take responsibility and keep everything in perspective. Other topics for the day will include how to read a credit report, debt management, saving and investing. On Nov. 7, the Tinker Club is hosting the Fabulous Family Feud, a team building activity with cash prizes. The registration deadline is Oct. 30. On Nov. 14, the base theater will host Curtis Zimmerman. Mr. Zimmerman has encouraged individuals and organizations to perform at a higher and more balanced level for 20 years. "His unique presentation includes juggling and fire eating. His performance will help educate people to become character driven leaders who make ethical decisions, handle conflict creatively and how to take responsibility for their actions," said Ms. Loughlin. Tinker Services will provide free soda and popcorn for all of those who attend as well as free prize giveaways after each presentation. Performance times are at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Units should have their Wingman Boldface cards. The front of the card lists numbers for all the organizations on base that can help with someone who is considering suicide. It also provides a spot to write down the name of "My Wingman" and that individual's phone number. The back of the card describes how to assess if someone is going to commit suicide. To request additional cards, call 734-9293.
