Operating the press
Will Wilson, plant operator, is shown emptying the plate-and-frame filter press at the industrial waste water treatment plant here. A team of 17 people run the plant. Any installation of this size must have a treatment plant. It is a 24/7 operation that processes more than 700,000 gallons of waste water per day. The waste is then discharged to the Oklahoma City Public Works Department. The plate-and-frame press has allowed the installation to make some significant environmental reductions and cost savings by removing most of the water from the hazardous industrial sludge prior to disposal. The IWTP has reduced hazardous waste sludge disposal by 7,079,480 pounds annually, 92 percent, and reduced hazardous waste sludge disposal costs by $1,272,137 annually, 91 percent.
