The dawn of the Internet has proved invaluable to many commercial and government agencies. The 72nd Civilian Personnel Flight is no exception.

With the rise of its popularity, came a change in the way the flight's business was conducted. No longer do customers have to depend on office hours, or have to make an appointment to fill out a form. The same information can be acquired with a click of a mouse. In some situations, such as a job application, the civilian personnel flight will only accept a form via the Internet.

"The Internet has helped expedite processes," said Sherilyn McCalister, acting 72nd CPF chief. "With the use of the Internet, customers are not tied to a 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. shift Monday through Friday, and can have questions answered outside the office hours."

The civilian personnel flight aides Tinker's civilian workforce with issues including job classification, staffing and employee relations, and programs for all appropriated-fund employees.

Prior to the birth of the Internet, the flight staff relied heavily on two walk-in information counters, at Bldgs. 3535 and 4069, to assist job applicants. Bldg. 4069, on the 38th Engineering Installation Group campus, helped applicants with access to the base, while Bldg. 3535 aided those who were not approved to enter the installation.

There, the staff answered questions and helped applicants fill out the necessary paperwork. Today, Bldg. 3535's service counter remains open, but flight personnel no longer accept hardcopy applications. Everything must be completed on the Internet, Ms. McCalister said.

Other applications customers can do themselves via the World Wide Web, is access the status of their retirement plan and pay scales. The applications are available through the Air Force portal.

"The majority of our work is computer driven, but we are a services organization and will provide services by appointment," Ms. McCalister said. For more information, call 739-2097.
