Softball playoffs spoiled by bad weather Published Aug. 28, 2008 By John Banks Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla., -- The skies and extreme wrath of Mother Nature has wreaked havoc on the outdoor Tinker sports scene, especially, the start of the 2008 large squadron, small squadron, and base championship softball playoffs at the Tinker Sports Complex over the past two weeks. The rains have caused a total wash out of the playoffs, thus the staff at Gerrity Fitness and Sports Center having to revamp the schedule to accommodate the weather. "This weather has caused us to fall behind in the playoffs and we have to rework the schedule. We normally have this concluded before the start of our intramural volleyball season," said Chris Gaines, Assistant Sports Director, Gerrity Fitness Center. A total of 32 games of softball had to be cancelled and rescheduled because of the rain that fell on Tinker. A total of 10.5 inches of rain made the field unplayable. The impact of the rain has had a definite impact on the players, score keepers, umpires and the staff at the Gerrity. The Gerrity Fitness and Sports Center is in the process of revising the schedule to get all the games replayed and to crown its 2008 Softball base champions.
