The Tinker Hawks I came into Sunday's contest against the division leading Flames with hopes to continue on their two-game win streak. The result was a hard-fought loss to the Flames 3-0 at the Blazers Ice Centre.

The Hawks started the first period showing intensity and grit. They dominated the opponent, but were unable to score. They controlled the ice out-shooting their opponent 16-6 in the first period.

"Guys, we played hard in the first period. We need to keep up the intensity on the offense and make sure we get back on defense," said Miguel Lopez, captain and center for the Hawks.

The play continued as it did in the first period. The Hawks continued their dominance, but the Flames goaltender walled-off the net and stopped anything that came his way.

The first goal of the game came as Flames right-winger Bryan Koch intercepted a pass at center ice and skated in all alone on Hawks' goaltender, Brad Poarch, lifting a shot in the upper-right-hand corner of the net. The Flames led 1-0 lead at 11:24.

The remainder of the period was a close-knit affair as both teams had great scoring chances but each goaltender stood firm.

"We need to play better defense. They are getting too many chances in front of our net," said Luke Westerman, defenseman for the Hawks.

The Flames scored two goals three minutes apart early in the third period to secure their victory over the Hawks.

"We played well in spurts, however we just could not put the puck in the net," said Lopez.
The win by the Flames improved their record to 7-2 and the loss dropped the Hawks to 3-6 on the season.

The Hawks return to ice on Sept. 7 versus the Screaming Pylons at 3:30 p.m. at the Arctic Edge Ice Arena in Edmond.
