Make it quick: tips for surviving MPF lines Published Aug. 13, 2008 By ID Card Section Tinker Air Force Base TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla., -- Many people who have come to the Military Personnel Section's ID cards office in Bldg 460 have been faced with long wait times to get their IDs issued or renewed. There is an answer. The section is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The wait times can be up to two hours. There are days each month that customers may be able to make the trip a quick one. There are special hours on the first and third Wednesday of every month. The office is open for three additional hours, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Military members in uniform also have a special time to drop in. They have priority every Tuesday and Thursday from 8 to 10 a.m. To reduce the chance of having to make another trip, customers should ensure all sponsors (military members) are aware that they must accompany their dependants for ID cards to be issued. The sponsor can obtain a DD Form 1172, ID card application, on their own and then pass it on to their dependant to come in without the sponsor. The only way a spouse can act on their own is if the dependant has a special power of attorney that states "MPF ID cards" or a copy of their sponsor's deployment orders. In either case, the sponsor must initiate the process. All members must have two valid forms of identification; the two forms are not required for minors under age 21. A military ID card can be used if their expiration date has not passed; if it has, it cannot be used. Normally customers will use a military ID, driver's license, state ID, social security card or voter's registration card. Without two valid forms of ID, a new ID card cannot be processed. It is recommended that military members visit their service specific DEERS facilities in their areas.
