LOA hands out scholarships to Tinker Airman, civilian Published Aug. 13, 2008 By Logistics Officer Association Tinker Air Force Base TINKER AIR FORCE BASE, Okla., -- Never underestimate the generosity of the Tinker community. That's one lesson learned after the Battelle Foundation Fund donated $1,000 towards the Crossroad's Chapter of the Logistics Officer Association scholarship fund last week. "Our scholarship program is a significant part of our organizations purpose," said Lt. Col. Joel Clay, president of the Crossroads Chapter of the LOA. "This is the one thing we raise funds for, to give scholarships. We're glad to receive donations of any size, but when Mr Richard Martin of the Battelle Foundation presented us $1,000 for our scholarship fund we were ecstatic." It's not often that someone just hands you a check for $1000, but that's exactly what happened to two of Tinker's best logisticians last month. During their monthly luncheon at the Tinker Club, Colonel Clay, gave out a pair of $1000 scholarships to a Tinker AFB enlisted and civilian logistician. This year's winners were Master Sgt. Michael Brown from the 423rd Supply Chain Management Squadron and Ms. Kathy Travis of the 76th Maintenance Support Squadron. "I am glad we were able to offer two $1,000 scholarships this year," said Colonel Clay. "What a competition! It was great to see the expertise and dedication of all our scholarship applicants, not just our winners. This year's competition was extremely close so we encourage folks to apply again next year." One local scholarship winner will compete at the LOA national level for another scholarship worth at least $2000. Any logisticians working towards a degree are encouraged to keep an eye out next year for the 2009 LOA scholarship announcement.
