First National Bank at Tinker was recently recognized as the "2007 Air Force Bank of the Year." Bank officials received the news July 14.

It is the fifth time the bank won the award. The bank previously won in 1998, 2001, 2004 and 2005.

"FNB continues to deliver outstanding customer service to Tinker Air Force Base personnel," wrote Col. Mark Correll, former 72nd Air Base Wing and installation commander, when nominating the bank for the award. "By fostering relations with [base] organizations, they are able stay abreast of the ever changing needs of the Tinker community."

Tammy Jo Snyder, vice president of the bank's two Tinker branches - in the Base Exchange and Bldg. 3001 - said receiving notification about the win was unexpected, but said she believes it's due to the bank's involvement in the Tinker community.

"We were noticed because of our efforts and involvement in the community," Ms. Snyder said.

The bank offers aides in several community programs including Lending a Hand, which helps families who need clothing and food, and Emergency Funds, which provides monetary support. In 2007, the bank donated more than $15,000 to Emergency Funds, according to the nomination packet submitted by Colonel Correll.

The bank also offers programs such as Second Chance Lending, which allows military members who normally wouldn't qualify for a certain loan, to obtain it with the assistance of Tinker's senior leadership.

Furthermore, bank officials also provide financial management education and counseling services.

"FNB is committed, we're not going anywhere and we're here for the troops no matter what," Ms. Snyder said.

Bank officials will pick up the "2007 Air Force Bank of the Year" plaque at the Military Banking Convention in Tucson, Ariz., in September.
