As the July 4th weekend approaches, many of us will come together to celebrate Independence Day. It's a holiday with the power to transcend differences, as people across the country honor our great nation.
There is much to honor on the Fourth of July, as our country has a proud past. We recall the fortitude and values of our forefathers and mothers, who laid the foundation for our country. We commemorate the Declaration of Independence - a document that cemented our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We celebrate our military heritage and the contributions the Air Force has made in preserving democracy.
We in Air Force Materiel Command also honor the United States on a daily basis. Each duty we complete, each mission we perform, we reaffirm our allegiance to the country we've agreed to serve - a task we do with integrity and excellence.
Our day-to-day accomplishments represent not just the goals of our command, but the values of our country.
Independence Day goes beyond honoring the past and living that tribute in the present. This holiday is also a time to honor the country by looking forward. With forethought and intellect, it is our job to plan for the years to come. It is exciting to know that the Air Force has a part in shaping the future of the United States. That is why we must continue to¬ strive for excellence, so that we preserve this nation's freedoms and ensure future generations can celebrate Independence Day.
Finally, as your fellow wingman, please keep safety in mind and make responsible decisions as you celebrate our nation's independence with friends and family.
Vicki and I hope that you all have a wonderful Fourth of July.
