Information Technology leader retires Published June 19, 2008 By Danielle Gregory Tinker Public Affairs TINKER AIR FORCE BASE -- Colonel Bruce Harmon retired from the United States Air Force and the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center's Information Technology Directorate on June 12. The officiating officer and speaker at Col. Harmon's ceremony was Col. Gregory Touhill, commander of the 81st Training Wing at Keesler Air Force Base. Colonel Touhill went through the seventeen different locations at which Colonel Harmon was stationed highlighting his great accomplishments. "I'm so glad to share this time with the Harmon family, because it really is a major part of what we are as Airman and what we are as part of that Air Force family. We celebrate the contribution of the Air Force family at these ceremonies and it's not just the military member that we want to say thank you to, it's also the family," said Colonel Touhill. Colonel Harmon began his career in the Air Force when he enlisted more than 33 years ago. Several years after enlisting Colonel Harmon received his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Troy State University and completed his Officer Training School. "To take a look at how significant his work was, when he was a Senior Airman he was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal," said Colonel Touhill. "How many Senior Airmen can say that they have been awarded that? He launched an impressive career that has taken him all over the place." Colonel Harmon held a variety of communications, computer and information management positions at all levels of command and commanded a communications squadron. Colonel Touhill said, "Here's a guy that pays attention to detail delivering results for the wing. He's been a go to guy throughout his career. Everywhere he has been he has done a phenomenal job." He continued explaining to the retirement attendees that Bruce Harmon epitomized the Air Force's core values. He added that Colonel Harmon always delivered with integrity, always put service before self and has been excellent in all he's done. During his time at Tinker Air Force Base Colonel Harmon was responsible for operational policy, strategic guidance, planning and programming, configuration management and resource policy for communications and computer systems as well as the operation of information systems to support the Center's depot maintenance, weapons systems management and acquisition management. Colonel Harmon concluded the ceremony by saying, "I did enlist 33 years ago with the intentions of staying four years. Back then the Air Force recruiting slogan was 'Air Force A Great Way of Life;' at the time I thought it sounded kind of hokie. It certainly lived up to the hype and I can't say I regret any of the time I've been in the service or any of the things I've done."
