Flames blaze past Hawks I 8-2 Published May 8, 2008 By John E. Banks Tinker Public Affairs TINKER PUBLIC AFFAIRS -- The Tinker Hawks I ice hockey team entered the first round of the 2008 Oklahoma City Adult Hockey League Division II playoffs with high hopes of advancing. Their hopes were dashed after an 8-2 loss to a talented Flames team May 4 at the Blazers Ice Centre. The Hawks came into the contest as the No. 3 seed while the Flames were the No. 6 seed. With only seven players, the Hawks had to be on their game to get the win. Both teams also had to endure poor ice conditions. The ice could not be resurfaced between games due to a malfunctioning Zamboni. The Flames scored three early goals and the Hawks had to regroup to get back into the contest. The Hawks scored their first goal midway through the second period. Right winger Adam Henley deflected a pass from left winger Tony Biddle past the Flames netminder to cut the lead to 3-1. The Hawks momentum was short lived as the Flames scored five unanswered goals over the next 20 minutes of play. This attack was led by center Taylor Willis who tallied three of the five goals. The Hawks scored one more goal before the final buzzer sounded. Miguel Lopez flicked a pass toward center Luke Hadsall, who found the back of the net to make the final score 8-2. The loss ends the Hawks' season with an 11-8-2 record. "I thought we played well in spurts tonight, but overall something was missing," Lopez said. "I do not really understand what was missing and it is something we will have to work on before the summer league starts."
