"That was HOT!" said Tinker Idol judge Dell Armstrong of several semifinalists at last week's semifinals competition.
Hot is an understatement given the talent Tinker is hiding. Come on out to the Tinker Club tonight and see the 10 finalists compete head on for the title of Tinker Idol. The show starts at 6 p.m. Each of the 10 contestants will sing two songs -- one from the '90s and one of their choice -- to win over the judges and the crowd. Just like the television show, the audience will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite performance on a ballot.
The semi-finals were just as electric as the tryouts and the contestants sang to a standing room only crowd. It was '80s night so the crowd heard some old classics originally sung by artists such as Madonna, Luther Vandross, Freddie Jackson, Whitney Houston, Phil Collins, Roxette, the Proclaimers and Joan Jett just to name a few. The audience was treated to a free food buffet and world class entertainment.
Services is all about fun, so the crowd was given some stretch breaks during which the entire ballroom was up on their feet dancing to the Village People's YMCA and later a tiring round of the Electric Slide. Children were also worn out after playing musical 'Simon Says' during the tallying of the votes.
The finalists (in no particular order) are Tenisia Stirrup, Geoffrey Stirrup, Lucinda Thierry, Joanna Hill, Angela Talley, Kandi Dyer, Jason Brown, Gregory Benjamin II, Terri Nevin-Hesselroth, Cristela Carrizales-Grimes and Ahmad Kennedy.
Tonight, one person will be named "Tinker Idol" and will walk away with the now increased $1,250 cash prize. Second and third places will win $600 and $300, respectively. The show starts at 6 p.m. at the Tinker Club, so be sure to arrive early to show support. For more information, call the club at 734-3418.
Tinker Idol is sponsored in part by Tinker Federal Credit Union, Singers Choice Karaoke Warehouse and Cricket Wireless.
