Around Tinker: Lead travel pay accountant retires

  • Published
After completing more than 40 years of dedicated civilian federal service, Dorothy "Dotty" Duncan, Tinker's 72nd Comptroller Squadron's Lead Travel Pay Accountant, retired on April 3.
She began her federal career in July 1967 as a GS-3 with the Department of the Army, working at the Armed Forces Examining and Entrance Station in Oklahoma City.
After assignments with her husband, Charlie to George AFB, CA, Wiesbaden and Lindsey Air Station, Germany, she returned to Oklahoma City and Tinker AFB in 1977 working as a GS-5, travel pay clerk. She worked her way up to GS-9, winning several prestigious awards along the way. Of her many accomplishments, Dotty was recognized as the OC-ALC Comptroller Civilian of the Year in 1990 and the OC-ALC Civilian of the Year for 1999.
A significant accomplishment and one she's quite proud of is how she paid all the entitlements to the numerous displaced families of the May 3rd, 1999 tornado. She worked countless hours and for several months to ensure everyone got every penny they were entitled.
During her retirement ceremony, Col. Mona Lisa Tucker, 72nd ABW vice Commander, presented Ms. Duncan a 40-year pin and a Certificate of Service from General Bruce Carlson, AFMC Commander and a congratulatory letter from Maj. Gen. Loren Reno, OC-ALC Commander.
Ms. Duncan, and her husband Charlie, will continue to reside in Oklahoma City where they plan to catch up on traveling to see family and doing things around the house.
